Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/03/2012

Number: 90

A friend whose home is on the shore of Lake Erie (at Bay Village/Rocky River border, west of Cleveland) counted around 90 monarchs coming in off the lake, probably around 9:30-10 AM. I had about a dozen in my butterfly bushes and soaring around my yard even before the sun hit it, and saw a few in the nearby tree. I also counted at least 20 in a period of 15 min, flying high and heading west. Around noon, I checked Bradstreet pier and Edgewater park, but did not see any significant activity. My neighbors also have had increased activity at their gardens, probably today being peak so far.
