I think we are past the peak but it is still busy. Not as busy as yesterday, though. The males seem to be gone. They are certainly hungry.
I'm guessing the peak was Thursday, August 30. I saw something pretty remarkable, I thought. I came home from errands and found a large number of frantic hummingbirds maneuvering around three feeders that are about 25' from each other. I have never seen that many so close together. It was one of those moments...
I found that they had emptied four feeders in my absence so I filled them and things calmed down. Next day, there were fewer. I believe the large number of migrating birds drained the feeders and that fact meant they had fewer places to eat. And they were hungry!
The tail end of Isaac is around and we are getting rain intermittently here and to the south so our birds have a bit of weather ahead of them.
