Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch

Weather: Winds started from the north and switched to east by mid day.

Monarch migration- : 860 in the first 1.5 hours and then it went crazy. There were butterflies everywhere you looked.

September 3
Dropped into Cranberry Marsh early this afternoon to see what the monarch situation was like. Rien! Nada!....well almost. Beautiful huge field of goldenrod, but only about 20 to capture and tag during the hour I was there, and that meant slugging it through tall goldenrod. Easterly winds. The hawk watch had only counted 18 monarchs by 1:00 pm. Actually it was quite entertaining and interesting to be at this great location, watching from the platform as migrating raptors and other birds head west.
