Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 09/04/2012

Number: 50

There were many (50?) Monarchs today nectaring in the prairie on the bluff above Lake Michigan at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center today. Unfortunately, below on the beach, were about as many dead butterflies washed up on the shore. What happened? We were guessing that they may have been attempting to cross the lake, or got caught in last night's storm.

The storm was from 2am-3am with a 7 mph SW wind. The winds were from the NW before the storm at 6-12 mph (midnight to 2am)
