During the four hours I was out at the South Shore of Robert Moses Beach I spotted over 300 monarchs. The day was sunny about 82 degrees and a light northeast wind. The monarchs were accompanied by many dragonflies and painted lady butterflies. Although there was limited food in the immediate area, within a three - five mile radius there was plentiful golden rod and other food sources. This was the earliest I have witnessed such a large amount of monarchs, they appeared to be traveling the migration path of their predecessors. Due to the NE wind, the biting flies were out and I could not locate where they were roosting. The monarchs looked very healthy.
