Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/06/2012

Number: 5

After 5 days of cloudy, showery weather, the butterflies are not as numerous. When the sun comes out briefly, the monarchs and other butterflies appear all along the row of butterfly bushes. The line of shrubs is oriented N to S and the monarchs make their way along the line from N to S and then away. The golden rod is beginning to bloom and the snake root is showing lots of buds. Blackeyed susan is beginning to fade a little, but phlox is still strong. Milkweed plants are beginning to yellow, but I have not seen active monarch larvae in about a week. Milkweed leaves have lots of small holes(1-3mm) but then no older caterpillars.
