This was in a large field recently planted almost entirely to red clover. [N. Williston Rd., opp. Deer Run Cemetery, if you're in the area.] I had been keeping an eye on this field, but until today, when there was a TREMENDOUS RUSH of Monarchs, I had seen very few.
This was the first glimpse of anything resembling peak migration that I have observed so far this fall.
I will also mention (again) that all the Monarchs I have observed seem smaller than usual.
Regretted not having my Canon 50D with me ... pocket camera was not up to the job, in poor light... sigh...
