Location Urie Christmas Tree Farm at end of Old Stage Rd. Observed from 5:40 to 6:00, gray skies and a light drizzle. Saw 5 Monarchs, more fluttering around than flying directionally, probably looking more for a good place to spend the night than for food.

GENERAL COMMENT ON CONDITIONS: This year there is a virtual absence of wild New England asters in this area; I have never seen so few -- unfortunately, this is one of the preferred foods of the migrating Monarchs I have seen hereabout over the past twelve years.
