This morning I believe was the end of the migration of most of the Rufous immature hummingbirds. We still have 4 that are feeding this afternoon, but the majority seem to have left this morning. They were feeding at 6 a.m. in a frenzy and by 8a.m. it was quiet at the feeder's There are 4 that I am still seeing. They are all immatures Rufous Hummingbirds.I believe at this writing that there are 11 less hummingbirds than there were yesterday. The best time to count them has been early morning and right after the sun goes down. That seems to be in our area when they all come to the feeder at one time and eat and do not chase each other off. They also hang out in the trees more at the end of the day making it easier to count them.
There are also 2 Broad-tailed Hummingbird's that are still feeding in the yard this morning.
This has been an unusual hummingbird migration for both the spring and the fall of 2012 for our area. Multitudes of hummingbirds at migration instead of the usual Anna's Hummingbirds at the feeders.
