Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/03/2012

Number: 50

Sept. 3-7 we had large numbers of ruby throated hummingbirds at our ten feeders in rural Ames, IA, on our heavily wooded property - too many birds to count, at times "swarms" of 50+ hummingbirds, competing for feeders and drinking hungrily, most numerous at feeders in early morning and between 6-7:45 pm. After cooler evening temps the nite of Sept. 7, September 8-9 still seeing 6-12 hummingbirds at feeders but numbers have significantly dropped. Still seeing an occasional male, although most birds have been females or juvenile males and females.
