Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/10/2012

Number: 3

Three hummers--two immature and one female feeding at feeders. My resident males moved on the last week of August and the resident females left the week before that. One of the juveniles is now defending one of my four feeders. I am seeing some apparent immigrants--they visit my flowers first before locating the feeders. I have seen them feeding on salvia, veronica, penstemon, petunias and althea. Some of the immigrants seem not to have encountered my type of feeders before as it takes them more time than the residents to figure out how to feed at them.
