Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/09/2012

Number: 2

The wife and I just checked the roost this week. So far NO monarchs roosting but we have had a "couple" fly thru my yard...and they were BIG...up to 6 inch wings spans. We had a dozen or more a couple years ago that were measured by several of our Naturalist that actually had 6" wing spans. Mostly females..healthy. This year not much, but then again its still early though I suspect they will be starting to come thru in the next three to four weeks. The ones we are seeing here are probably scouts. There is "some" food her for them (drought was really bad again this year), so we will have to wait and see. I suspect they will move their migatory route a bit east where they have had rain to create host plants to feed and nest on (100 miles east of Wichita Falls).
