Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/11/2012

Number: 6

A school employee brought in two larva because they had totally eaten her plant! I knew immediately they were Monarch larva. Now, where was I going to get food! After calling SEVERAL plant nurseries, I was unable to find milkweed. As a last ditch effort I called one out of the phone book that wasn't in my area. They had some milkweed!!! I drove over to buy the plants and when I arrived, they were covered with more larva. I took a couple of plants, with 4 caterpillars on it and I brought them to school. I added the two I already had and I think they are happy. I only hope I don't run out of food!! They are very large so maybe they are ready to form the cocoon.
Hopefully we will be able to hatch them. We have done the painted ladies but we are so excited about the Monarchs.
