Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/11/2012

Number: 1

My co-worker and I were working on a ski tower at the top of Tussey mountain when I noticed quite a few Monarchs flying around. This was at around 10 am. The top of the ski hill is essentially open ground like an alpine meadow giving us a great view toward the northeast. The Monarchs were flying from the northeast toward the southwest. They continued to fly past us all day in a steady stream in loose groups of up to twenty or so. Literally hundreds of Monarchs passed by, over and around us through the course of the day. I found myself many times pausing to watch the procession! It was one of the loveliest things I've ever been privileged to see. My only regret was not being able to take a picture or video of this enchanting event.
