While spending several hours in the yard catching up on gardening chores, I found several 2nd instar monarch caterpillars in a patch of common milkweed that I had cut back and it re-sprouted. Also, adult monarchs were numerous, briefly stopping to nectar on the goldenrods, asters, and sunflowers in my meadow and then sailing off in a southwesterly direction. I still have monarch pupae in my cages; they should be out and on their way by this time next week.
