This morning I noticed 10-15 monarch butterflies high up in a tree in my yard. It is an ailanthus (sp?) tree, covered in old growth ivy, which flowers in late summer. The Monarchs seem to like the nectar, and I see this phenomena every year about this time. Some years there are many monarchs for several days in a row, other years, just a few. This is a mid range year. The sad part is, this tree needs to come down, before it falls on my house. Although I live in an urban area, there is a lot of green space in my community. Unable to get a decent picture due to poor quality / old equipment. Also, Monarchs tend to stay up higher in tree, where the sun is.
