This observation was my backyard, 200 feet from Long Island Sound on a peninsula 1200' wide enclosing Stony Brook Harbor. However, this migration has continued since first noticing while sitting on the beach, Labor Day, Sept 2, watching pairs and singles flutter in from across the sound at about 2- 5 every 5 minutes heading south/southwest. I also notice they are at peak in the am when sunny thru sunny early pm. I live on Long Island north shore and watch significant amounts of Monarchs cross from Connecticut on to my beach, cross my peninsula, (and backyard) then cross Stony Brook harbor all heading south/southwest.
