Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/16/2012

Number: 40

Walking along the ocean at 8:30 a.m. in Kennebunkport, Maine. Observed 'many' but didn't count (approx. 30 to 40) perhaps more flying with a headwind at them. It seemed to throw them off and they would gravitate to be closer to buildings and roofs as they made their way south. A few stopped on flowers, but most were just trying to make their way through the wind.

I had to look up the wind direction, and think I am right in saying it was south easterly. Those beautiful little creatures were flying south and had to deal with that steady south easterly winds. I am sorry I can't tell you how strong the winds were, but they were taking it in stride and moving forward down the coast.
