About 2PM today I had a female adult............ (I believe it was a female adult) , It was NOT a Male adult for sure. It was a the Canna flower in front of my living room window. Last year in 2011 they stayed until Sept 25. I hope the will stay that long this year, because they were about a month late getting to my feeder this year. I never saw one until June 17th. I only get about 4 or 5 max showing up at one time , usually in late Aug. Most of the time I see 2 or 3 battling at the feeder. This year I witnessed something new. My wife & I were sitting on the backyard swing. Two met in mid air and they clung to each other and one appeared to press the other on to its back from about 6 feet in the air and the 2 went together to the ground. One on its back right down to the grass with the other right on top of it. They stayed there for about 2 seconds and the both took off together until about 6 feet off the ground again and they went over the house and out of sight. Neither was an adult male. I never see adult males here. Still hoping. I don't know if that was fighting or mating. ?????????? Do you ? Thanks , Verne
