Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2012

Number: 9

Guests arrive for breakfast at 7:07 AM, 47 degrees. Our resident female left yesterday afternoon sometime after 3:30 PM, (the last time I saw her) we had winds of 13 MPH yesterday, so perhaps she felt the flying conditions were optimal. The woodpecker who shared her feeder all summer was dining alone last night and this morning. The two inseparable friends are still here, flying, eating, perching, playing together. The 'Smallest Guest We've Ever Seen' also remains. She is so small, the salvia flowers/stems do not move when she is feeding. 18 feeders + mass flowers: Pink Turtleheads, Black & Blue Salvia, Bfly bushes, Pink & Orange Lantana, Dicentra Scandens, Impatients, Obedient Plant.
Single plant: Wendy's Wish salvia that is adored. We will be adding more of Wendy's Wish to the habitat next year, for our small winged wonders.
