Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/16/2012

Number: 2

Our resident females are still here. Before going to the feeder, the backyard bird does a cruise of the scarlet and coral coccinia around the feeder. Two events I have not seen before: both birds sitting side by side on the little observation perch near the feeder. They looked almost chummy and quite compatible. That lasted almost 40 seconds. Butterflies have been landing on the hummer feeder lately, especially in the chilly mornings. Although the yellow jackets chase the hummers away, the humming bird attacks the butterfly!
