I was able to get out this morning to check the site of last year’s monarch roost. There were considerably fewer sunflowers blooming in this unit this year. It was also exceptionally dewy this morning. I found no monarchs roosting in the hedge trees where we saw them last year. I also checked a draw just to the south of the hedge trees because there were quite a bit more sunflowers blooming near the trees in the draw, but again to no avail. However, as I was leaving and about to approach my car, a monarch flew out in front of me as if to taunt me! I didn’t see any others though.
