Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/15/2012

Number: 10

Since mid August we've had nonstop activity at 3 feeders, and just hung 2 more. Have never had hummer numbers like this before. Been going thru 2 quarts of nectar per week. Most appear to be juveniles, the rest females. Have not seen adult males in approx. 2 weeks. They are letting me get closer to them than ever, about 1 ft away. I even got one to feed from a dish I was holding. One bird perched on feeder got hold of a foot of another hovering above it with it's beak and fell over backward. They both hung upside down together for a couple seconds. That same bird runs around on the perch chasing others off. Fast footwork!
