Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/18/2012

Number: 1

Just had a female ruby-throat stop by for a few quick sips of nectar from my feeder!!! I haven't spotted any activity here whatsoever since early last week. I have no doubt that she is a migrant on her way South, who happened to spot the feeder on her way through our area. I've read that it's a good idea to keep a feeder with fresh nectar available for about 2 weeks after you've spotted the last bird, because others do migrate through your area, and it's very helpful to them to have fresh food available, if there aren't any flowers or other food sources available for them.
