This fall, our fourth grade class has been studying Monarch butterflies. Here are some of our observations written by students:
One day we all played on the playground and 3 Monarchs landed on the monkey bars and then they flew away.
We saw 2 Monarch butterflies that flew right past our window and landed in a tree.
In the last week, we have seen a mix of male and female Monarch butterflies. They were flying in circles while eating.
Our class had a female Monarch in a jar. Females have no spots on their back wings, only males have spots. We saw the caterpillar's skin peeling off when going into chrysalis.
In the past week, we let two Monarch butterflies go, one female and one male. They flew curiously into the sky for the first time.
One day, we saw 4 chrysalis and one hurt butterfly.
