Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2012

Number: 1

While watering my plants, I found one larva on top of swamp milkweed leaf at 6:00 p.m. It was very still and looking pale in comparison to other caterpillars. I took it inside the house thinking it was the cool temperature affecting this larva. It remained very still that night and for most of the next. At approximately 11:00p.m. I observed it had changed skin. The caterpillar colors now appeared the normal brightness shades of yellow, black and white. Before the change of skin it measured 1 inch. Next morning it measured 1 1/4 inches. I decided to keep the caterpillar inside the house for observation. The larva has been feeding on fresh swamp milkweeds from a potted patch.
