Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/09/2012

Number: 50

On Sept 9th, we noticed monarch roosting in the same maple grove we have observed in previous years. They were lighting and re lighting on tree tops, in the sun.
When observed in the early morning, we could not see a group or real roosting, but due to small numbers, they were likely dispersed. This particular site has been used in the past - both big roostings were in August. This summer the migration moved through early, so we were surprised by the late roosting activity.
