Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/16/2012

Number: 3000

On Sunday morning 16 September 2012 at Gilgo Beach (which is 10 miles west of Robert Moses Beach) at 7 am more monarchs continued their flight. Similar to the previous day, there were over 3000 in 4 hours. There was a strong NW wind, again in the 70's and very sunny early in the day. Both days the monarchs were accompanied by many dragonflies and other butterflies. The constant flow of monarchs was amazing. They gracefully flew over the ocean, the beach, the roads and the sand dunes. In the later afternoon there was nominal monarch activity.
