Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/16/2012

Number: 12

Today Bob and I trained four rangers at the Grand Canyon to tag monarchs on their migration as part of our permit with the National Park Service. Adult monarchs were lower in number on Saturday from our visit three weeks ago but increased in numbers Sunday. Monarchs were nectaring mainly on rabbitbrush but also asters, sunflowers and gumweed. We spotted a few large 5th instar monarch caterpillars on A. subverticillata as did Laura Miller who visited a few days prior.
