Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/19/2012

Number: 4

We had two very active birds today arguing all day over the feeders. (They just don't seem to get it that there are four well stocked feeding stations.) Then at sunset my husband reports that there were four birds and the arguing was intense. My little adolescent bird tried huffing himself up and chasing the newer birds off, but the travelers just stared him down. The two travelers fed together at one feeder after staring down the more "residential" bird. This is the latest we have had hummers. Usually September 18 is the final departure date. (We are several degrees colder than the rest of the neighborhood, due to the river running not too far from the house.)
