Severe drought in my area this summer but kept my gardens watered for the butterflies/bees/insects. Paid off- have approximately 12 monarchs a day and I counted 15 caterpillars in my milkweed garden yesterday morning. Found one chrysalis yesterday afternoon on my farm fence.
Still- count is down by about 90% over last year- per my daily log book. This time last year i was monitoring over 75 chrysalis. AND last year, the count was down from 2010! So dramatic decline in my area over two years.
