Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/20/2012

Number: 23

Near downtown Roanoke at the River's Edge complex, my family and I sat and watched at least 20 Monarchs flying across the parking lot. Occasionally they would stop and rest, and nearly disappear with their camouflage in the gravel. It was sometimes hard to count, since they might have been resting and starting off again. But there were many more flying on the way home, at least 4 crossing the road in only one mile. Amazing!
