Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/23/2012

Number: 1

36 degrees this morning, warm nectar served in feeders that were used yesterday, needed approx. 2 cups to replenish the feeders. One guest sighted in the East habitat, 7:12 AM, enjoying Black & Blue salvia. Yesterday, I made Red Flags--15 inches wide by 22 inches long out of red tomato plastic and stapled them to 8 foot tall tomato poles. Hubby said our beautiful yard looks like a 'Red neck's golf course.' :) Orange survey tape was placed on all branches next to feeders. The weather forecast was not warm or friendly--The day turned cold, windy, and we received a harsh, cold, rain in the afternoon. The Red Flags provided 'bigger hummingbird beacons' in the habitat, for any hummingbird flying over, in need of nectar, shelter, rest. Perhaps the Red Flags worked, as we do not usually have any guests after Sept. 22. It is a joy and pleasure to help any small guest as they travel on their Journey South.
