Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/21/2012

Number: 4

This summer we had 5 hummingbirds at our feeders and flowers. An adult male and a female, and three juveniles, 2 female and 1 male. The juvenile male was identified by his gorget growing in late in the season. I only saw that phenomena once on him and then he left. The two juvenile females were seen often together on the feeder, not chasing each other off, and frequently sitting together and traveling around the yard together. The adult male and female were observed guarding the feeder often but not together. The adult female was seen with the juveniles early then chasing the two young females toward the end of the season. It is difficult to say for sure which juveniles belonged to which clutch, but I would guess the two females were the second clutch from the behavior and timing that I observed.
