Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/22/2012

Number: 20

Monarchs are migrating across central Oklahoma! I noticed new ones sporatically moving into the garden, and others moving out all afternoon. The temp has been 85 degrees with wind NNE. From 5pm to 5:45pm, I noticed an increase of Monarchs flying. I counted 20 Monarchs in that time period in a directional southerly flight. The winds will be easterly today, then change to the south this week until the next front comes next weekend. We remain in extreme drought conditions. Has been a challenge to keep the grasshoppers from decimating the flowers intended for the migrating Monarchs. No roost noted.
