Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/15/2012

Number: 1000

The trees were loaded with the monarchs. Thousands of butterflies located at the southern end of Jamestown at Beavertail State Park. It appeared that they were pairing up for mating. The entire park was engulfed with them. They were flying east to west and I also saw many of them in Narragansett Bay in the area of Narragansett beach also flying east - west. I have never seen this amount of monarchs. The park was filled with people watching the event. As soon as someone walked into the brush they all flew.
