Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2012

Number: 1

About 2:30PM on the 17th a female adult visited me for the last hummingbird view of the year. I was cleaning up autumn leaves in the backyard, when suddenly she flew up to me at about chest level , hovered there for about 5 seconds in what was the coldest afternoon this fall. Her wings even sounded a bit heavier than usual. She rose to my face level and stayed another couple of seconds and then went up and over the house in a South direction. It felt like it was a thankyou for the little sanctuary I have built for them over the years. I did not expect to see any again after that, and I haven't. A sad time for me, they are gone again and another year has past. I look forward to May again. I hope to see adult males next year, for a change. I never get adult males here and I really want to see a Rubythroat in the yard. We get them an hour North of here at Lake Winnipeg, but I never get them in my yard. Even when 4 or 5 show up, never an adult male. Thankyou for your work and website. Talk to you next year. Oh by the way , I must have accidently put my name in the Teacher box at some point. I am not a Teacher. Please remove that if you can. I tried. It didn't work for me. Thanks again ! Verne
