Well Donna and I were surprised that we saw so many butterflies from 2-4PM yesterday afternoon at WeeTee State Forest, Williamsburg Co., SC because it was 71f, completely overcast with a NW 10+ mph wind. We went in the Suttons Methodist Church Entrance of Santee Rd. and drove to the bridge (ca 1.2 mi) and then we walked W on the road across the bridge and adjacent to the clear cut. Despite the weather there were butterflies everywhere on the dirt roads and in the vegetation along the edges. There were puddles of water on the road from recent rains. We had:
Gulf Fritillary 25+
Variegated Fritillary 35+
