Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/24/2012

Number: 2000

Significant numbers came in again today and were roosting throughout Cape May and at the point. My garden was a busy stop over for those that had roosted nearby from 7 am on and then those who arrived throughout the day. Most looked to be in great shape. An am walk through the blue trail at the point indicated there was likely a large roost near the end of the trail where many monarchs were still flitting about, many on the English Ivy. Monarchs en mass were flying along the dunes in the am but did not appear to be leaving. At the point this eve Stites was magnificent with many trees on the block covered with monarchs.
