We've been having heavier than normal Ruby Throat traffic at our feeders over the past week. They feed all day, but heavier towards the evening. Lot's of chasing around the feeders, and lot's more visibility hovering in the yard. I have 4 feeders out, and I often have a hummingbird on two a time, with others hovering. I had one feed within 2 feet of me yesterday, while I was changing out my normal feeders.
FYI, last year we had several Black Chins in our neighborhood stay over the Winter, male and female. I had the female stake out my yard. A close- by friend a few streets over had a male and a female. It was the second year he and I'd noticed this. He banded both of his. Mine showed up in mid- October, and scooted in late February, or early March, both years.
The Ruby Throats show up here somewhere in late March or early April, and could leave any day now. Daytime Hi's are around 80 degrees, and nighttime Low's are around 70 degrees right now.
We really noticed the Monarch Migration this year, too. It's been heavy for the last few days.
