Another glorious Monarch day. The monarchs slowly arrived around 1 pm and, as the day went on, their numbers increased. On a sunny day with temps in the mid 70 and a fierce NE wind, I spotted approximately 2300 monarchs. As previously they were escorted by hundreds of dragonflies. About 5% of the monarchs were stopping on the beach on the wet moist sand and if they were taking a drink. The strong NE wind seemed to tire the monarchs and had them fly lower to the dunes and ocean. They flew up the shoreline and dunes and as if like magic at 4:40 they made their way to the pine trees and started to roost for the night. I counted approximately 1700 roosting in many pine trees. There were many smaller roosts than in previous days.
