Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/25/2012

Number: 50

A friend who lives close by called to report her asters and butterfly bushes were full of monarchs. She estimated 40-50 of them. She actually lives on the road to Caesar's Head, which just on the border of North and South Carolina, about 10 miles away. I didn't get there until about 6PM, but there were still many around. My friend's sister who is tall did the netting and I did the tagging. We were able to tag 16 of them--8 females and 8 males. All looked in good shape except for the raggedness on the hind wings of some of them. Many of them escaped, but I'll be back tomorrow afternoon and see if we can tag some more.
