Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/28/2012

Number: 3

Two females and one juvenile. One female perches on a limb only a couple of feet from the feeder and pretty much guards the feeder, chasing away others that attempt to eat. She can be seen most of the day either feeding or sitting on her perch. I can watch her most of the day. The others manage to slip in and get nectar and I have several butterfly bushes for them to enjoy so I feel their getting plenty of nectar. Weather has been cool and rainy but they're feeding even during the downpours we've had the past few days. My feeder is under an eave so they are protected when feeding but the rain doesn't seem to affect them much. I feel we are in the last days of the season for having them around. I miss these little guys when they leave and always makes me a little sad. But I hope my feeding them helps them prepare for their long journey. I bought my first large bag of regular birdseed yesterday. Feeding the regular birds in the winter helps me get through our long winters. I wish there were a site like this for regular bird watching. If anyone knows of a good one email me! Good luck with your sightings!
