Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/29/2012

Number: 10000

Huge influx of monarchs today throughout Cape May (please note I put in an arbitary number above-it is impossible to say how many came in). I noted activity around 9:30-the point had large numbers building up in roosts along the dunes in pine trees at 10ish am. In the state park we found scores of monarchs on the ground on grass (11:30 am), they seemed to be puddling?! Monarchs were also nectaring throughout the state park but many were resting in small clusters, others (many, many) flying toward the point.

Near our cottage, large numbers were dropping out of the sky all afternoon. More still coming in though it seems to have slowed down now.
