Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/29/2012

Number: 8000

Lots of monarchs roosting around Cape May Point. They started roosting early in the day 1 pm. The team found 5 roosts and counted approximately 8,000 butterflies. I'm sure there were more that we didn't see considering the numbers that streamed into town today. The roosts were found on cedars, pines, and some deciduous trees and were mainly located on trees in the dunes. We'll see if they leave tomorrow or hang around to feed and fatten up.
