Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/30/2012

Number: 1000

What an incredible day! Started out at 7:30 am, with monarchs coming down into our rear garden. A trip to the point at 8am revealed the monarchs waking up at many roosts, and by 10 am, many were out and about nectaring at the point and state park. At the state park it was clear that another wave of migrants was coming in, monarchs, red admirals, buckeyes and many many dragonflies. At our butterfly cottage in the city of Cape May, all day monarchs dropped in the front and rear gardens, and from 4:20-4:35 I counted 63 dropping down from the north while sitting on our front porch.
This evening it appeared that some of the monarchs may have left today, although there were some nice sized roosts around the point. A magical day in Cape May.
