Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/30/2012

Number: 1

It has been a very quiet Monarch season this year here. I only occasionally spotted a Monarch flying in the area between Sept 20 through 25. And in the past few days none at all. Last year I was not only seeing them in abundance at the ivy tree but spotted them flying all around town. It makes me wonder if for some reason they deviated slightly from their normal path last year (since I had not seen them in such numbers here before) and this year it is back to where it was. Certainly flying through town is not to their advantage; too much traffic and pollution. I certainly miss seeing them as it was a truly splendid and spectacular sight, but I think flying through the countryside is safer for them.
