Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/27/2012

Number: 1000

I first noticed monarch butterflies on Monday 9/24/12. The number steady increased each day with the peak coming on Thursday 9/27/12. That day they were flying by my house in groups of 2,4 7,8 at a time. I observed this for 12 hours. From 8:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. I estimate that on Thursday alone I saw over 1000 butterflies. Since 9/27 I have seen butterflies, but in decreasing numbers each day. Total for the week of 9/24 to 9/28 must be 2000 plus. I am retired from a 35 year career with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation. This sighting is on par with anything I saw during those years. Absolutely amazing.
