October 1
My first sighting was on a 8:30 A.M. (on 10/1/12) walk through tall live oak trees around a small lake. Individual Monarchs were seen flying. Then after searching through the trees small groups were found clustered together. The still morning was cool and crisp after days of rain. This is the same location that was covered with Monarchs roosting for days last year.
Editor's Note: This roost was discovered the morning of October 1st. We are assuming the roost formed the night before so have dated the report September 30th.
October 8
After initial reporting of a roost, few monarchs remain and even fewer are flying through. It appears that activity stopped and now we are waiting to see what happens.
