Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/29/2012

Number: 1

Hey All,

Just wanted to share that all of our resident birds have left the area. Last Sun., the 23rd the temperatures dropped into the upper 40s. The older of the two remaining female juveniles met up with a straggler and apparently left the following day. I refilled the feeders to be certain any other stragglers had a safe refueling place and to offer as much choice to the lone remaining female as possible.

About Fri. afternoon as the Cold Front drew near she came up to the tree nearest me and jumped to the feeder for one last feeding. She then flew up to the clothes line directly across from my rear door window vantage point, stared at me, gave a flip to her wings, then leaped up heading towards the old Oak. Only this time she didn't land, she circled the Oak and headed South.

So don't be surprised if you see two or three young hummers appear a bit late on their journey from here to points South. I'm sure they would welcome a sweet respite and a quck nap as they move on their way, finally... Be safe and hopefully we will have good news to share next Spring!
